KRYC organises lecture on ‘Understanding Kashmir’

Srinagar: As part of the lecture series “Understanding Kashmir” organized by Kashmir Research & Youth Center (KRYC), the second lecture was today delivered by J&K High Court Bar Association President Adv. Mian Abdul Qayoom at Hotel Mumtaz Towers Lal Chowk Srinagar.

The Lecture, attended by research scholars and students focused on the legal aspects of Kashmir Issue.

Adv. Mian Abdul Qayoom spoke on issues ranging from Maharaja Gulab Singh’s treaty with Britishers, Incident of 1931, and formation of Muslim Conference, National Conference, 1947 partition and the controversial accession of Kashmir with India by Maharaja Hari Singh.

Mian Abdul Qayoom mentioned the resolutions passed by United Nation’s Security Council in regard of Kashmir while stressing that both India and Pakistan are duty bound to implement those resolutions. On the role and importance of United Nations he said that UN may not be able to get these resolutions implemented but “at least there is a world body where case of Kashmir issue is alive.”

The lecture was followed by a question answer session.

On the occasion Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Professor of Legal Studies at Central University of Kashmir added valuable inputs on the legal aspects of Kashmir Issue in the light of International Law.

The lecture series shall continue in which subject specialists, media experts and political observers will be speaking on the said topic. The aim of this lecture series is self awareness and asserting ourselves for improving policy and decision making. 

KRYC is a Research Center aimed at facilitating youth of Kashmir in knowing the past, and making a better future; KRYC is a youth-led action research group formed for social change. KRYC promotes the use of action research for personal, group, and community development.

KRYC focuses on the exchange of practical applications of research findings for professionals working with, or for, young people throughout the state. KYRC is developing academically rigorous responses, at local, regional and national levels, to current and future issues facing the people of Kashmir, which include socio-political concerns, unemployment, environmental concerns, mental health risks, media developments, social interaction, participation and inclusion.
