US President Donald Trump said the Iran negotiating team will include his special envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and possibly Vice President JD Vance.
Trump previously said he expected good prospects for negotiations with Iran, expressing confidence that few remaining differences remain to be resolved to reach a deal.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump said: “Steve (Witkoff) and Jared (Kushner) will be going out, and maybe JD (Vance). Haven’t spoken to JD about that yet.”
He said negotiations would be held in “Islamabad only” as he is “not interested in going to countries that didn’t help.”
The US president said a second round of talks could take place this weekend, although there has been no formal announcement.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
On April 7, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire. Subsequent talks in Islamabad ended without result. While no resumption of hostilities was announced, the US began a blockade of Iranian ports.
