Despite ceasefire on the Line of Control, June saw three infiltration attempts from across the LoC in which 11 infiltrators were killed close to LoC in north Kashmir’s Kupwara sector. Along with arms and ammunition the forces also recovered 55 packets of narcotics from the possession of infiltrators.

This is the first time in the three decades of militancy huge quantity of narcotics have been recovered from the fresh group of infiltrators.

The officials in the security establishment have been constantly claiming that with funding channels drying up now the handlers are using drugs to fund the militancy in J&K. For security establishment, the narco terrorism is becoming a big issue as now handlers in Pakistan are directly using drugs to finance militancy in J&K.

Official data has revealed that large quantities of drugs have been brought from across the border either by infiltrators or those who have good connections. Even the drones are being used to drop consignment of drugs in Jammu sector.

After getting the stone evidences, the police has launched massive crackdown against drug peddlers in J&K especially in Kashmir Valley. In Srinagar alone 200 FIR’s and 35 Public Safety Acts have been slapped on drug peddlers and their handlers.

However the biggest concern is the regular supply of drugs via Line of Control. Police have found many sleeper groups that are being used for ferrying drugs into Kashmir by those living close to LoC villages. Later these consignments reach to different states of the country.

However what is alarming is the use of drugs in the J&K especially in Valley and large number of youths even school going children were found using drugs or substances. It’s not the first time when drugs supplied from across the border was seized, even when cross LoC trade was going on from Poonch and Uri big consignment of drugs were seized that was brought through cross LoC buses.

Though Police has launched massive crackdown against drug dealers and peddlers in J&K especially in the border districts, however, there should be no relaxation against those trying to make profit from this terrible business.
