‘LS election being fought to save democracy and protect Indian constitution’ : Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that the “2024 Lok Sabha election is being fought to save democracy and to protect the Indian constitution.”

“I am confident we are going to win this fight,” he said while addressing a public meeting in support of INDIA alliance candidates at Palayamkottai here, this evening.

He said today there is an ideological battle taking place in India. On one side, the ideas of Periyar, Social Justice, Freedom and Equality. And on the other side, the ideas of RSS, Narendra Modi and his government.

Modi says One Nation One Leader and One Language. The Tamil language is no less than any other Indian languages. There are many different languages, many different traditions, histories and cultures in the country and all of them are equally important to us.

There can be no India without Tamil, without Bengali, without a large number of languages that our people speak.

We (Congress) say that all are our people, all our traditions, all our languages are sacred and they (BJP) say there should be one leader, one language, one tradition and one history.

India today is more unequal than it was under the British period, the Wayanad MP said.

Rahul said 21 Indians have more wealth than 70 crore people put together in the country.

30 Indian farmers kill themselves every single day and yet the Prime Minister is not ready to forget their loans, but he can give 16 lakh crore to the richest Indians and forget their loans.

Two or three large industrialists, none of them from Tamil Nadu, got all the contracts, all the benefits, and every single industry was handed over to them.

Just because Adani is close to Modi and helps the PM, the ports, the airports, electrical power, wind power, solar power, defence industry all of them were handed over to him. The entire small and medium industry has been destroyed by demonitization, and GST.

The Enforcement Directorate, CBI, and Income Tax department are used as political weapons. The Election Commissioners have been chosen by the PM, he said.
