Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Atul Londhe on Thursday demanded to cancel the candidature of Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena for alleged violation of the model code of conduct.

In a letter addressed to the State Election officer, he alleged that since start of the Lok Sabha election campaign, the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena have repeatedly violated model code of conduct and the Congress party has also filed a formal complaint about it with the Election Commission.
Now, once again, a similar situation has come to light, he said.

Despite ban on use of properties of government and public undertakings for campaigning, MSRTC officials have allowed more than 1,000 buses to be used illegally for Shiv Sena’s election campaign, he pointed.

The Shiv Sena is campaigning for elections by putting banners on MSRTC buses, the Congress leader alleged.

The banner prominently features photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar and the bow and arrow symbol of Shiv Sena, he informed.

This act of MSRTC officials is not only a clear violation of the code of conduct, but also undermines fairness and integrity of the election process, he pointed out.

Therefore, action should also be taken against senior officials of MSRTC for allegedly violating the model code of conduct, Londhe added.
