A major terror incident was averted in south Kashmir’s Shopian district after security forces recovered and neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) during a joint operation on Wednesday, Army said.
They said the IED recovery was made along with Jammu and Kashmir Police during a joint operation near Chitragam in the Zainapora area.
Army said the IED weighed approximately 14.5 kilograms and was packed with high explosives. It was reportedly fitted with a remote triggering mechanism.
Bomb disposal teams were immediately pressed into action, and the device was “surgically handled” before being destroyed in a controlled explosion, preventing any casualties or damage.
In a statement shared on X, Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps said the timely action of the forces helped avert a major tragedy.
“#ChinarWarriors, in a joint operation with @JmuKmrPolice, averted a major terror incident by recovering and neutralising an IED near Chitragam in Gen area Zainapora, Shopian. The 14.5 kg IED, packed with high explosives and fitted with a remote trigger, was surgically handled and destroyed in a controlled manner,” Army said.
Army said that it remains resolute in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free.
