The Gazette notification has fixed May 22 as the date for the re-unification of all three civic bodies in Delhi.
The notification has been released by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The senior officials and Mayors confirmed to UNI about the reunification date mentioned in the notification.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2022 (10 of 2022), the Central Government hereby appoints the 22nd day of May 2022 on which the Municipal Corporation of Delhi shall be constituted,” the MHA notification reads.

“South and North MCD tenure end today (May 18) while the East MCD’s term will end on May 21,” a senior official told UNI.
The move comes over a month after Rajya Sabha on April 5 passed with a voice vote the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2022, to merge the three municipal corporations of Delhi into a single entity.
The legislation to unify the three civic bodies was approved by the Lok Sabha on March 30.
According to the unification act, the central government will appoint a “special officer” to run the new unified civic body until the first meeting of the corporation is held.
