SRINAGAR, FEB 13 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti addressing a press conference in Srinagar on Sunday.

President of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday appealed to the youth to shun militancy, saying that security forces were getting incentives to kill them.

“I hear every day that three or four youth have been killed, which means the local recruitment here has increased. It is my request to the parents and the children to save their lives because killing you is an incentive for them (security forces). They get money and promotions for that,” Mehbooba told reporters here.

She said corruption charges should be filed against BJP for using money to break the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.

Mehbooba said people in Kashmir should visit and extend solidarities with the families, who were facing raids by the Central investigation agencies.

New Delhi is stigmatising people in Kashmir by filing “fake militancy and corruption cases” against them, alleged the PDP chief.

She said, “When your neighbours are raided and accused of corruption or militancy, you should visit their families to extend solidarities. Without enquiry, how can government terminate anyone from the job? They want us to become untouchable for each other, but we will fight back democratically against the assault.”

Referring to the PAGD, Mehbooba said, “We had so many differences, but still we are together. We should not lose hope, otherwise our condition will be worse than the Gaza Strip. They are sealing houses and properties to make our situation worse.”

Referring to the protests by Kashmiri Pandits over the target killings of members of the community, Mufti said people, including religious leaders, should emphasise the fact that Pandits were a part of the Kashmiri society and its asset.

“Kashmiri Pandits are still protesting. When the situation was bad during my tenure (as CM), even then no pandit was killed. We provided them a salary for 17 months, while they were home. I appeal to our people, our maulvis (religious leaders) to announce that they (Kashmiri Pandits) are our assets.

“Whenever something wrong happens here, the BJP uses this community (Kashmiri Pandits) to defame us,” she added.

About the unprecedented security arrangements for this year’s Amarnath Yatra, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said the administration “has created such an atmosphere, as if some attacker is coming”.

“They are yatris, our guests. We have been caring for them for centuries. But, (this year), you (administration) have placed so many nakas (security checkpoints) that it seems the yatra is taking place for the first time,” she added.
