Mehbooba Mufti demands time-bound probe into killing of tribal youth in Jammu crossfire

Former Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today demanded a time-bound probe into the killing of tribal youth in a “cross firing” incident in Jammu last evening.

According to police, they were chasing suspected drug peddlers in Satwari, Jammu, when there was firing on them, and in the crossfire, Mohamma Parvez was killed while another person escaped.

The PDP questioned the justification of such actions, stressing that even if allegations are true, justice must be served through due legal process.

“Mohammad Parvez, a tribal youth, was killed by the police at Surat Chak Police Station in Satwari yesterday. He’s now been labelled as a drug dealer, but even if that is the case, we still live in a democratic country where justice is served through rule of law as opposed to khap panchayats or kangaroo courts,” she said in a post on X.

She urged the Director General of Police to take cognisance and order a time-bound, impartial probe into the matter.

“We must not condone or descend into a culture of extrajudicial encounters because that’s precisely what alienates people,” she cautioned.
