Mehbooba Mufti vacates Fairview residence

1 min read

Former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday vacated the Fairview residence in the high security Gupkar in Srinagar, her party spokesman said.

She has shifted to a private residence at Khimber on Srinagar outskirts. The house where Mufti shifted belongs to her younger sister and brother-in-law who are doctors and based outside the country.

“Mehbooba ji vacated her Gupkar residence,” PDP spokesman said.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration had last month asked Mufti to vacate the government’s Fairview bungalow and also set a deadline to move out by the end of November.

Initially she was told to vacate on November 15.

Mufti’s new residence is more than 20 km away from Fairview residence.

The Fairview bungalow was allotted to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in December 2005, after he relinquished the chief minister’s office. The Fairview bungalow was the address of late Mufti Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba for over a decade.

On Sunday, the authorities also asked Mufti and several former legislators to vacate their government quarters in Anantnag district of the south Kashmir.
