The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has issued an extended weather advisory, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir from May 30 to June 6.
According to the department, May 30 and 31 will see moderate to intense showers, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely at a few locations. While most areas across the Union Territory will remain cloudy, light to moderate rainfall is also expected at scattered places.
The weather is likely to shift slightly on June 1 and 2, with the possibility of brief spells of light rain and thunderstorms at isolated locations.
From June 4 to 6, conditions are expected to remain generally dry, although short-lived thunderstorms and light rainfall may occur in the late afternoons in some areas.
In its advisory, the MeT Department has warned of the potential for flash floods in isolated regions, especially in areas that receive intense downpours. The risk of landslides and mudslides has also been flagged, particularly in hilly or unstable zones.
Officials have urged residents and tourists to stay away from vulnerable areas, including loose structures, electric poles, hanging cables, and old trees, as a precaution.
The department has advised the public and administration to stay alert and take necessary safety measures during this period of volatile weather.(KINS)
