Militant associate arrested in north Kashmir

Srinagar, April 20 (UNI) Security forces arrested a militant associate in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said on Wednesday evening. They said Umer Ajaz of Naberpora Bandipora was arrested by a joint team of Police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force at a checkpoint.

“The terrorist associate was arrested during a joint naka at Papachan Bandipora,” a senior police officer said, adding a Chinese pistol and a hand grenade was recovered from his scooty.

Police said further investigation has been taken up. The arrest was two days after a newly recruited Laskhar-e-Toiba militant Amir Tariq Khan, alias Waleed was arrested from the district. Khan was nabbed from an orchard during a joint operation. Meanwhile, J&K has urged Internet users not to provide wifi hotspots to strangers, subversive elements and criminals. “It is requested to all internet users not to provide wifi hotspots to strangers, subversive elements, criminals. Keep hotspots/wifi with strong passwords.

Legal action will be taken on those providing internet, if such wifi/hotspot usage is by criminals, militants & their associates,” a tweet by Srinagar police said. The police request comes amid reports that militants were using mobile data of civilians to escape security radar. The modus operandi of using the Internet data of civilians was busted during the investigation of a militancy related case.
