Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday hailed the efforts of security forces who were able to convince two militants to surrender in Kulgam earlier in the day.
Mufti also praised the families of the militants for their cooperation in helping to defuse a gun battle situation as the militants surrendered.
The two militants surrendered on the appeal of parents and police during the encounter which took place in Hadigam village in south Kashmir during a cordon and a search operation.
“During the encounter, 2 local terrorists surrendered on the appeal of their parents and police. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition recovered,” a police spokesman tweeted earlier.
The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir also tweeted: “Two lives saved thanks to the efforts of their families & the support extended by security forces. These kind of efforts must be continued so that youngsters who join militancy are given a second chance to live their lives.”
