Misconduct allegations rock Sopore school, lecturer suspended

Authorities on Monday suspended a senior lecturer following allegations of serious misconduct involving girl students in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district.


J&K Police have also registered a case against the lecturer, who is posted at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sopore.


According to an official order issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, the Urdu lecturer has been placed under suspension with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his conduct.


The order further states that the accused has been attached to BHSS Badugam, Gurez in Bandipora district, while the Joint Director (North) has been appointed as the inquiry officer to conduct a probe and submit a report within 15 days.


Tensions escalated at the school on Monday as students gathered outside the premises, protesting the alleged harassment and demanding the lecturer’s arrest.


As the protest intensified, senior police and civil administration officials reached the spot and attempted to pacify the students.


Senior Superintendent of Police Sopore, Iftikhar Talib, said that a case has been registered and an investigation has been set into motion.


In the wake of the incident, the authorities have decided to suspend classwork at three educational institutes in Sopore till Saturday.
