Morning fog and moderate air quality blanket Delhi; Mumbai sees hazy dawn

Several parts of the National capital, including Dhaula Kuan, Akshardham, Dwarka and Mother Teresa Crescent Marg, were enveloped in moderate fog on Monday morning.

Accompanying the reduced visibility, air quality levels across Delhi ranged from moderate to poor, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Data recorded around 7 AM showed Dwarka’s Sectors 3, 6, and 10 in the ‘poor’ category with an AQI of 243. Other locations like Mahipalpur (AQI 134) and Mother Teresa Crescent Marg (AQI 118) remained in the ‘moderate’ range. In the broader National Capital Region (NCR), Ghaziabad also reported ‘poor’ air with an AQI of 259.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fog or mist in the morning for Delhi, with conditions expected to clear later in the day.

Meanwhile, Mumbai began its day under a haze as well. The area around Marine Drive recorded a ‘moderate’ AQI of 126, with residents continuing their morning walks amidst the foggy conditions.

According to the IMD, several airports across north and central India reported very dense to shallow fog conditions early in the morning. This comes a day after Delhi’s air quality was in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday morning, with an overall AQI of 318.

The IMD had also issued a yellow alert for Delhi and neighbouring regions, warning of potential thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. Parts of Haryana, including Karnal, even experienced a hailstorm early on Sunday.
