At least five persons were killed and six others were seriously injured when a van they were travelling in, collided head-on with a bus on a national highway in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh in the wee hours of today.
According to the police, the fatal accident occurred sometime around 2.30 AM, on National Highway 719 near Gill Dhaba near Chimka area under the Gohad Chauraha police station limits.
The ill-fated van carrying 11 people was going from Gwalior to Bhind. The bus carrying a marriage party was coming from Bhind towards Gwalior.
Both the vehicles were at high speeds, and collided at a sharp turning.
The van got badly mangled and fell off the road into a ditch due to the impact of the collision. Four passengers of the van died on the spot, while another one succumbed later.
The villagers informed the local police, who rushed to the spot and extricated the bodies from the van.
The six seriously injured passengers of the van were sent to a hospital in Gwalior for treatment.
Gohad Square Police Station in-charge Manish Dhakad said that three of the deceased were identified as Jagdish Bhadoria, a resident of Sevda in Datia district, Atul Shivhare, a pharmacist from Bhind, and Pradeep, also from Bhind. Efforts were on to identify the other two deceased.
The injured included Santosh, a resident of Maroli in Mehgaon police station area, and his 10-year-old daughter Kittu, 61-year-old Meera Devi, 50-year-old Sukhbir Singh, 60-year-old Bhogi Nath, a resident of Mehgaon, and 61-year-old Mewaram, a resident of Gohad, who were referred to Gwalior for treatment.
