The historic Mughal Road, which connects the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch with the Kashmir Valley, was reopened for normal vehicular traffic on Monday after remaining closed for nearly a week due to heavy snowfall, officials said.
According to officials, the road was partially reopened late Sunday night to allow vehicles stranded on either side of the stretch to pass through. Full traffic movement was restored on Monday morning after improvement in weather and road conditions.
“The road had been closed due to heavy snowfall. With clearance operations completed, traffic has now been fully restored,” officials said.
However, the traffic police has imposed fresh cut-off timings, allowing vehicles to cross the designated points at both ends of the Mughal Road only up to 2.30 pm. No vehicular movement will be permitted on the stretch beyond the cut-off time.
Officials cautioned that partial snow cover still remains at Pir Ki Gali, and slippery road conditions may develop during the evening hours. Commuters have been advised to travel with caution and adhere strictly to traffic advisories.
Meanwhile, the Jammu–Poonch highway, which had remained closed for around three hours due to a landslide, has also been restored for normal traffic, officials added.(KINS)
