Demanding the restoration of statehood and an end to the alleged harassment of Kashmiris in parts of the country, legislators of the ruling National Conference on Tuesday staged a protest outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Carrying placards and shouting slogans such as “Restore Statehood”, the NC MLAs demanded the reinstatement of statehood. NC MLA and Chief Whip Mubarak Gul said that several leaders had sacrificed for the integrity and special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We will raise the demand of statehood restoration to Jammu and Kashmir, 370, 35-A in the House during the Session,” said MLA Gul.
He added that they would continue to raise this demand until their last breath, further stating that one day Ladakh would also reunite with Jammu and Kashmir, restoring it as a complete state.
PDP MLA Muntazir Mehdi, who also joined the protest, said, “I support the cause, but not the National Conference.” NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq said, “The restoration of statehood is the only solution to empower Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to work independently for the welfare and development of Jammu and Kashmir.”
