NIT, Srinagar professor under ACB scanner in disproportionate assets case

Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday registered a disproportionate assets case against a professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, officials said.


They said an FIR was registered against Manzoor Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Duderhama Ganderbal who is presently posted as a professor at NIT, Srinagar.


The ACB said that searches were conducted in Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Jammu in the case on Monday.
“The suspect is in possession of huge assets, both immovable and movable, and cash deposits in his name as well as in the names of his family members. The assets were found to be disproportionate to his known source of income during the verification,” a statement by the ACB said.


It added that the omissions and commissions on the part of the public servant constitute offences punishable under U/S 5(1)(e) r/w 5(2) J&K PC Act, Svt. 2006.


Accordingly, a case FIR No. 04/2024 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and further investigation was taken up.


ACB said that after obtaining a search warrant from the Court, searches were carried out at five separate locations: a residential house at Duderhama Ganderbal; a shopping complex at Ganderbal; a rest house at Kangan, Ganderbal; an official quarter and office at NIT Srinagar; and a flat at Sunjwan Bathandi Jammu simultaneously.


“During the search, incriminating material, including revenue papers, finance and bank documents, and hard cash of ₹38,66,50, was recovered and seized as evidence in the instant case,” the ACB said, adding that further investigation of the case is going on.
