Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has blamed the PDP-BJP coalition government for the death of the volunteer of National Youth Corps (NYC), who was on a month long hunger strike in the summer capital.

Azad said that the death of the NYC youth clearly took place due to the government’s dictatorial approach toward the NYC volunteers’ grievance.

Raj Kumar of Shatroo, Kishtwar, who was on a month long hunger strike with other NYC volunteers demanding regularization of their temporary jobs died after suffering a heart attack at his home on Friday, said President Asif Ali Bhat.

Bhat said that Kumar had developed complications after remaining on hunger strike with his colleagues in Srinagar.

Azad said had the coalition government acted on time, the death of the youth surely could not have happened.

“Since the PDP-BJP coalition government has no time to attend to and address the public issues, they do not care whether people will die or survive. The two coalition partners’ only aim is to polarize the three regions of the state,” he said.

National Conference senior leader and party’s provincial president for Jammu region, Davender Singh Rana said that the government was insensitive to the welfare of the people and their rule will certainly destroy the fabric of the state that NC had built over decades.

“The death of the NYC man is sad and very unfortunate. The state government has to answer to his family and people at large. The government has to understand that JK is a welfare state and showing insensitivity to the grievances of the people is shocking,” Rana told KNS.

He said the way the government has handled the NYC strike is highly deplorable. “Government needs to show compassion towards the young men and women and address their issue in a genuine way,” he said.

Senior leaders Hakim Yaseen and MY Tarigami also condemned the death of the Kishtwar youth.

“It is the negligence of the peoples issues by the government that such a sad incident has taken place. The government instead of addressing the peoples grievances is behaving in a way as they want to kill the whole population of the state,” the leaders told KNS. (KNS)
