On Pulwama attack anniversary, CRPF reaffirms resolve to eradicate terror

On the seventh anniversary of the Pulwama terror attack, Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, on Saturday said the force remains committed to eradicating terrorism across the country.

Singh, joined by senior officials of the Army, J&K Police, CRPF and local administration paid solemn tributes to the 40 CRPF personnel killed on this day in 2019, when a local suicide bomber affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a CRPF convoy bus at Lethpora, killing 40 personnel. The Pulwama attack had brought India and Pakistan at the brink of war.

Following a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyrs Memorial at Lethpora Puwlama, Singh said the CRPF and its Family Welfare Organisation remain fully committed to supporting the families of the martyrs.

He said financial assistance of Rs 2.25–3 crore has been provided to each family, 19 families have been allotted housing, and others have received land in coordination with local governments.

“Children of the martyrs are being supported through education and compassionate appointments,” he told reporters.

The DG said the force has launched the “Brave Family App” to help families raise day-to-day concerns and stay connected with the CRPF Welfare Directorate.

He added that the organisation remains in close contact with families of personnel killed in subsequent operations and is committed to addressing their concerns.

“On behalf of the CRPF, I want to assure all families that we are always with them. The CRPF is committed to eradicating terrorism across the country,” he said.

The ceremony at Lethpora included a wreath-laying parade, ceremonial guard salute, bugle call and a minute’s silence in honour of the fallen personnel.

As part of the tribute, CRPF organised a blood donation camp — an annual tradition — in which officers and jawans voluntarily donated more than 100 units of blood to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.

Meanwhile, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to the CRPF personnel who lost their lives in 2019 blast.

“Humble tributes to the valiant martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during the dastardly terrorist attack in Pulwama in 2019. Their unwavering commitment, unparalleled bravery and selfless service to the motherland will forever inspire every citizen,” office of J&K LG said in a post on X.
