New Delhi: An Indian fisherman was injured in Pakistani firing today after a group of fishing boats crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line, northwest of Gujarat, sources said.
The crew on board fishing boat 'Suryakiran' said that the Pakistani coast guard approached them on water scooters and opened fire.
The Pakistan Maritime Security officials have taken 24 Indian fishermen into custody and four boats have been seized, said Manish Lodhari, Secretary of National Fishworkers' Forum. He added that there was no information of the injured fishermen in Pakistani custody.
"We learnt from other fishermen that MSA personnel came on a boat and opened fire on some fishing boats near IMBL this afternoon. One fisherman has been injured in the firing. MSA also captured 24 fishermen including the one injured and also seized four of their boats and took them to Karachi port," Mr Lodhari said.
This is the second such incident in the area in a month. A fisherman from Okha port was killed in Pakistani firing near the IMBL on September 18. (agencies)
