Srinagar: Complete spontaneous shutdown was Wednesday observed in Pampore town by the people on the killing of two militants in a shootout in the town on Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

According to KNS correspondent, shops and business units were shut, while police and paramilitary forces, wearing riot gear, were deployed on the main road to thwart any protests.

However, public and private transport as well was playing on the Highway smoothly.

The shopkeepers observed a spontaneous shutdown as no Hurriyat group had called for it. Minor incidents of stone pelting were reported in Drangabal and Namblabal areas as the people protested demanding body of another unidentified militant for burial in the town.

A police official said that no "untoward incident" was reported from any area of the town during the day.

Two militants, one unidentified and another from Sopore, Shakir Ahmad Bhat, were killed in a shootout near JKEDI headquarters on Tuesday evening after the vehicle they were travelling was intercepted by the security forces deployed on the Highway. (KNS)
