Parts of Srinagar observed a shutdown on Friday against the comments made by two leaders of BJP on the Islamic Prophet.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in Srinagar’s city centre as well as the old city, officials and witnesses said. Very less traffic was visible on city interior roads.

Security men were deployed in strength in sensitive areas of the city to ensure peace, the officials said.

No Friday prayers were offered at the historical Jamia mosque in Srinagar for the second consecutive week.

Mutahida Majlis -e-Ulema(MMU), the representative amalgam of religious social and educational organisations of Kashmir expressed strong resentment over the “repeated closure” of the Jamia mosque Srinagar by the authorities.

Last week, protests had taken place at several places including Srinagar over the blasphemous remarks against the Prophet.

Police said the situation across Kashmir remained peaceful.
