The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday trapped and arrested a Patwari in Srinagar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for issuing revenue extracts.
An ACB spokesperson said the accused, identified as Saffdar Hussain Mir, Patwari of Halqa Batmaloo, had demanded the bribe from a complainant in exchange for issuance of revenue documents in favour of the complainant’s relative.
Following a written complaint, the ACB conducted a pre-trap verification which confirmed the demand for bribe. Subsequently, a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at ACB Police Station Srinagar.
A trap team later laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant. He was taken into custody after completing medico-legal formalities.
Further investigation into the case is underway, the spokesperson said.
