Private member bill proposes administrative reorganisation in J&K

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra on Saturday said that extending support to National Conference (NC) candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections was a “difficult decision”, but was taken in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rajya Sabha elections were held on Friday in which the NC won three out of four seats, while one seat went to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Parra said that all three PDP MLAs voted in favour of the NC candidates.

“We have differences with NC. It was a difficult decision, but still our President Mehbooba Mufti took this call in the larger interest of J&K. We have already submitted a few bills on land rights and daily wagers, and we expect the NC to support them,” he said according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

Reacting to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks that some MLAs betrayed the NC during the polls, Parra said the allegations also raise questions within the NC itself.

“There may be accusations, but it also raises questions on NC MLAs as we don’t know who voted for the BJP candidate,” he added. (KINS)
