Three people were hospitalised after the landing gear of a plane carrying 126 people collapsed as it landed at the Miami International Airport, according to spokesman Greg Chin.

According to CNN, the flight was arriving from Santo Domingo on Tuesday at 5:30 pm (local time) when the gear collapsed and caused a fire.

Erika Benitez, a spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue, said the fire crews reached the scene they saw the wing of the aircraft on fire.

“MDFR is on scene of an aircraft fire at @iflyMIA. Fire crews have placed the fire under control and are mitigating fuel spillage. All souls on board have been assessed for injuries. A total of 3 patients have been transported to local area hospitals,” said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board said the aircraft was a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and an investigation will be launched into the incident.
