Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day, praising the state’s vibrant culture, rich heritage, natural beauty and the warmth of its people.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “Greetings to the people of Goa on the special occasion of Goa Statehood Day. Goa’s vibrant culture, rich heritage, natural beauty and warm-hearted people are widely known.”
Modi also paid tribute to those who contributed to the state’s development and distinct identity over the years. “This day is also an opportunity to remember with gratitude all those who worked tirelessly for its progress and identity,” he said.
Expressing confidence in Goa’s future role in the country’s growth story, the Prime Minister said he hoped the coastal state would continue to prosper and play an important role in the vision of a developed India. “May Goa continue to prosper and play an important role in building a Viksit Bharat,” he added.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his wishes for the well-being of the people of the state, saying, “Praying for the good health and prosperity of every Goan.”
Goa Statehood Day is observed annually on May 30 to commemorate the state’s elevation as the 25th state of India in 1987. The occasion is marked by celebrations across the state, highlighting Goa’s unique cultural identity, historical legacy and achievements in sectors such as tourism, education and economic development. Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961 and remained a union Territory before attaining full statehood nearly three decades later.
Modi’s message comes as the state celebrates its journey of progress while reaffirming its place in India’s development aspirations.
