Police crack the whip on illegal mining in Ganderbal

16 arrested, 16 vehicles seized in 15 days: Official

 Police continue to take action against those involved in the illegal extraction of minor minerals like sand, bajri and boulders, and unauthorized transportation in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that on the direction of SP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, special police teams led by SHOs and DOs of police stations and police posts of Ganderbal under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan and DySP Headquarters Gh Hassan to check the menace of illegal mining in the district.

During the course of action, 16 persons were arrested and 16 tippers were seized on the spot in the last fifteen days, he said, adding that these vehicles were loaded with illegally extracted bajri, sand and boulders from Nallah Sindh Ganderbal.

He said the cases under relevant sections of the law were registered at Police Station Ganderbal, Police Station Kheerbawani, Police Station Lar, and Police Station Safapora respectively; and the investigation has been taken up.
