Srinagar: Amidst strict restrictions imposed by the authorities today, the Police on Friday foiled the protest march of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party.Representational Pic
The march was foiled at Sanat Nagar after scores of activists took to the streets and started marching towards the United Nations Office at Sonwar. As soon the activists were proceeding towards Sonwar, the police swung into action and detained them amid pro freedom slogans. However, the march was led by activists since the party leader Shah is continuously under House arrest.
Meanwhile, the authorities Friday barred people from offering congregational prayers at Historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar after plugging all the routes leading to it. Huge number of government forces remained deployed around the mosque and restricted the movement of people. The Huriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and appealed people to assemble their and stage sit-in against the growing intolerance across India against the minority people besides killing of trucker Zahid Rasool of South Kashmir by Hindu fanatics in Udhampur.
