Police launch major crackdown on terror networks in Kashmir

In a major counter-terror operation, police in Kulgam and Sopore have launched simultaneous crackdowns to dismantle terror networks and subversive ecosystems. These operations focus on targeting overground workers (OGWs) and individuals linked to terrorist handlers operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In Kulgam, located in south Kashmir, the police acted on specific intelligence inputs and carried out multiple Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) across several areas of the district. These operations targeted individuals involved in facilitating, funding, and promoting terrorism, often at the behest of their relatives based across the border.

“During the operation, a number of relatives and associates of active J&K nationals operating from Pak or PoK were booked under relevant provisions of law for their continued involvement in anti-national activities, including logistical support, propaganda circulation, and aiding recruitment. Digital devices and incriminating materials were also seized during the raids,” police said.

In north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, police launched a large-scale crackdown against OGWs and terror associates to neutralize local terror networks.

A significant number of suspected OGWs and sympathizers have been detained for questioning from various areas in Police District Sopore. These individuals are being interrogated to trace their linkages, financial conduits, and communication channels with handlers based in Pakistan.

“As part of the ongoing operation, a large number of suspected OGWs and sympathizers have been picked up for questioning from different areas of Police District Sopore. These individuals are being thoroughly interrogated to trace their linkages, financial conduits, and communication channels with handlers based in Pakistan,” police said.

“This action forms part of Sopore Police’s sustained strategy to dismantle the terror ecosystem, which provides funding, logistics, and local facilitation to active terrorists and cross-border handlers. Many suspects have been booked and lodged in Sub-Jail under preventive detention laws, while security proceedings have been initiated against others to prevent them from aiding or abetting anti-national activities,” police said.

Searches are continuing at multiple suspected locations across the district, as teams work to identify and disrupt local support networks of terror outfits.

According to officials, the ongoing crackdown is preventive in nature and aimed at protecting youth from extremist influence.

“The operation will continue in the coming days with a focused effort to monitor terror associates and handlers’ networks, ensuring that peace and normalcy are maintained despite attempts by foreign handlers to disrupt the situation,” the officials said.

The district-wide operations are being conducted in close coordination with the Indian Army and central armed police forces, ensuring seamless synergy between all security forces to counter terrorism and its support structures.
