‘Proposal for construction of 20,125 bunkers in Jammu submitted to MHA’

 Srinagar, Oct 7:  After the civilian killings during Indo-Pak skirmishes in border regions, a proposal for construction of 20,125 community type bunkers for an amount of Rs 1000.25 crore at various places along the Line of Control in Jammu has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India vide number Home/57/Acctts/2013/861 dated February 23, 2015 for consideration. 

     This was stated by Minister for Home in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday in response to a query raised by National Conference legislator Javed Ahmed Rana.

    The Minister according to CNS said that an amount of Rs 3 crore has already been provided by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs for construction of 60 bunkers @ Rs 5 lakh on pilot basis in Jammu district.

    Giving details about the casualties in Mendhar constituency, the Minister said that six civilians were killed and five others were injured in Balakote sector due to firing from across the border on August 15 this year. The Minister added that an amount of Rs 6 lakh has been paid to the next of kin of the deceased persons while out of five injured, ex-gratia has been paid in respect of 4 cases and one case is under process.

     Meanwhile, the Minster for Home said that a comprehensive proposal which includes the construction 1286 bunkers at an estimated cost of Rs 64.30 crore in Samba district has also been forwarded to Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.(CNS)
