Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests deed writer on bribery charge

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has apprehended a deed writer Kawarpal Singh Vasika Navis and his assistant for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.25 lakh.

A VB spokesperson said Thursday that the deed writer, working at Sub Division Qadian, Gurdaspur district,and his private assistant have been arrested on the basis of an online complaint lodged by Kulwant Singh of village Sherpur, tehsil Batala, on the Chief Minister Anti Corruption Action Line portal.

He said the complainant has alleged in his complaint that the accused Vasika Navis had obtained a bribe of Rs 2.25 lakh from him in lieu of transferring ownership name (mutation) of his ancestral land in his name. Besides, his typist Sunny also demanded Rs 70,000 from him for entering the said mutation.
The spokesperson informed that during investigation of the complaint it was proved that the said Vasika Navis has taken a bribe of Rs 2.25 lakh in three installments from the complainant. It was also found that his private assistant Sunny working in his office, had demanded Rs 70,000 from the complainant.

Subsequently, both the accused have been arrested and the role of the concerned halqua Patwari and Naib Tehsildar would also be probed.

He added that in this regard a case has been registered at VB police station Amritsar range. Further investigation into this case was on.
