Russian President Vladimir Putin has discussed during a phone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the implementation of joint projects in trade, the economy, transport, logistics and energy, as well as other topical issues on the bilateral agenda, the Kremlin said on Saturday.

“As a follow-up to the exchange of opinions in [the Russian city of] Kazan on February 21, 2024 [on the sidelines of the Games of Future international competition], the presidents discussed certain current issues on the bilateral agenda, with a particular focus on the implementation of joint projects in trade, the economy, transport, logistics and energy,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

Tokayev “specifically emphasised the substantive and forward-looking nature” of Putin’s address to the Russian parliament, the statement read.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their mutual intention to strengthen the relations of allied and strategic partnership between their countries.

On February 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia was keen to further expand cooperation with its neighbors in Eurasia, and would prioritize ties with them during its current chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
