Rahul Gandhi extends Sikkim Statehood Day greetings, praises state’s harmony and heritage

‎Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday extended greetings to the people of Sikkim on the occasion of the state’s Statehood Day, praising its natural beauty, cultural richness and spirit of harmony.

In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi said, “Best wishes to the people of Sikkim on their Statehood Day.”

‎Highlighting the state’s unique identity and traditions, the Congress leader said, “Blessed with abundant natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage, and vibrant traditions, Sikkim stands as a shining example of harmony and resilience.”

‎He also expressed hope for the state’s continued progress and prosperity, adding, “May the state continue to flourish and thrive.”

‎The greetings came as Sikkim celebrated the 50th anniversary of its statehood with official ceremonies, cultural programmes and public events across the Himalayan state. Sikkim formally became the 22nd state of India on May 16, 1975, following a historic referendum that led to the abolition of the monarchy and its integration into the Indian Union.

‎Known for its scenic mountain landscapes, biodiversity and multicultural traditions, Sikkim has emerged over the decades as a prominent destination for eco-tourism and organic farming. The state also holds strategic importance for India because of its borders with China, Nepal and Bhutan.

‎Political leaders from across the spectrum have extended greetings to the people of the state during the golden jubilee celebrations, highlighting Sikkim’s development achievements and its contribution to the country’s cultural and environmental heritage.
