Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Savitribai Phule and Rani Velu Nachiyar on their birth anniversaries

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday paid tribute to Savitribai Phule, India’s first female teacher, and Rani Velu Nachiyar, a revered Indian freedom fighter, on their birth anniversaries.

In separate posts on handle X, Gandhi remembered the contributions of the two remarkable women to India’s struggle for independence and social justice.

“On the birth anniversary of India’s first female teacher, Savitribai Phule ji, I pay my humble respects to her. Her struggle for the rights of the deprived and oppressed, and her contribution towards social justice, will forever continue to guide us,” Gandhi said.

Savitribai Phule was a pioneering social reformer and educator who worked tirelessly to promote education and empowerment of women and marginalised communities. Alongside her husband Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, she played a crucial role in shaping India’s social and educational landscape.

Paying tribute to Rani Velu Nachiyar, the queen of the princely state of Sivaganga, who is celebrated for her bravery and leadership in the fight against British colonial rule, Gandhi said: “Humble tributes to Rani Velu Nachiyar of Tamil Nadu on her birth anniversary. She fought fiercely against the British and was among the first Indian queens to challenge British colonial rule. Her courage, leadership, and sacrifice continue to inspire generations,” he said.

Rani Velu Nachiyar’s legacy as a fearless leader and a champion of Indian independence continues to inspire generations. Her contributions to India’s freedom struggle remain an important part of the country’s history.
