Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi today renewed his attack on the BJP and the Election Commission, alleging that “chunav chori” (vote theft) had taken place in several states and warned that similar attempts could be made in Bihar.
Gandhi said, “We have a lot of material; we will continue this process. We will clearly show India’s GenZ and youth that Narendra Modi became the PM through ‘chunav chori’ and BJP indulges in ‘chunav chori’.”
He alleged that the BJP and the Election Commission were “attacking the Constitution together,” and cited examples from the recent Haryana elections, claiming that a “‘wholesale chori’ occurred there.”
“There was no response by the EC to the allegations levelled by me, fake vote, fake photograph,” Gandhi said, adding that “Narendra Modi ji, Amit Shah ji and EC are attacking the Constitution together. The Constitution says ‘One man, one vote’ but “in Haryana, it became ‘one man, multiple votes’.”
He warned that “they are going to do the same in Bihar. It happened in MP, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Gujarat.”
The remarks came two days after Gandhi’s appeal to young voters in Bihar ahead of the first phase of polling on November 6. Addressing “young friends” and “Gen-Z brothers and sisters,” he had urged them to come out and vote “in large numbers” to “determine the direction of Bihar’s future.”
“Many of you are going to vote for the first time. This is not just your right, but democracy’s greatest responsibility,” he said, accusing the ruling BJP of trying to “suppress the voice of the people” in several states. “You’ve seen how in Haryana, a nefarious game of vote theft was played. Now their eyes are on Bihar, on your votes, on your future,” Gandhi had said, urging voters to “defeat this conspiracy of ‘Vote Theft, Government Theft.’”
A day later, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Arun Bharti hit back, accusing the Congress leader of “instigating the youth and Gen Z to eradicate his own unemployment.” Bharti said Gandhi was “trying to set narratives and instigate the youth,” adding that “the people of Bihar and the youth of the country are aware of Rahul Gandhi’s intentions and will not let them succeed.”
The LJP(RV) leader also rejected Gandhi’s charge of “vote chori” and demanded evidence. “Rahul Gandhi should also provide facts while making statements. Why does he not go to the court if his allegations are true” he said, while appealing to voters to “keep corruption and jungle raj away” and “vote for the NDA so that Bihar’s pace of development is not slowed down.”
