Rain Lashes Valley, Snow in Upper Reaches

Temperature plummets across region

 

Srinagar: Kashmir valley Saturday received fresh rainfall, while upper reaches were blanketed by heavy snow, causing a dip in the temperature.

Met department said that plains received rainfall, while upper reaches in Gulamrg and Pahalgam received by snowfall.

As per met figures, temperature in ski-resort Gulmarg dropped to minus o.5 Celsius, Srinagar 6.3 and received a 1.9 mm rainfall. While Pahalgam, received 1.4 mm rainfall and its upper reaches were covered by snow.

In Kupwara, temperature plummeted to 5.7 and the region also received 10 mm rain. The gateway to Kashmir, Qazigund, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.7 degree Celsius, but no rain was reported here.

The met department has on Friday evening forecast rain and snow in the state for three days till morning of October 27.

Sonam Lotus, Director Meteorological department, had told KNS that western disturbance may influence the atmosphere over the state, which may cause intermittent moderate to heavy rains in plain areas of the Valley and fresh snowfall on hilly areas.

He had said in Jammu region and at many places in Ladakh particularly Kargil district the same weather may prevail.

"This weather condition may trigger landslide and blockage of road in vulnerable areas of the state particularly along Srinagar-Jammu, Srinagar-Leh and Leh-Manali highways," he had told KNS, adding, the weather system may also disrupt surface and air transport. (KNS)
