Jammu, May 21 (UNI) Police on Saturday said since the Thursday evening collapse of an under-construction tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in the Ramban district, nine bodies have been recovered from the debris.
Nearly a dozen labourers were trapped under the rubble after a portion of the tunnel caved in.
“So far, nine bodies have been recovered and one more body is still buried,” Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma said.
She said that the evacuation operation was underway.
The rescue operation was suspended on Friday night due to thunderstorm followed by rains.
On Thursday around 10.15 pm, the Ajit tunnel of T3 caved-in, near Khooni Nallah trapping 12 labourers of Sarla Company working at the site.
Two persons were rescued and were shifted to district hospital Ramban. One of them, Vishnu Gola (33) from Jharkhand was referred to GMC Jammu.
