Reservation policy row: Open merit category should get preference in jobs in J&K: APSCC

The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) on Monday said the youth belonging to the open merit category should get preference in jobs and other avenues in Jammu and Kashmir.

Extending support to the protest carried out by National Conference Member of Parliament, Aga Syed Ruhullah against the reservation policy, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said since open merit category is a big category the youth belonging to this category should be given more weightage as was the case earlier.

He said that reservation to the splinter groups is more based on politics rather than actual situation.

“It is important that the restlessness among the youth belonging to the open merit category is averted”, Raina said, adding, “the same is possible only when reservation to the smaller groups is banished and same is given to the open merit category youth.

The APSCC Chairman said that “a judicial probe needs to be carried out about the injustice meted out to the members of majority by a miniscule group”.

He alleged that majority community members have been deprived of their due share in jobs and other avenues of life.

“For the past so many decades Sikhs have been demanding reservation in jobs and other fields of life but the same has been denied. The community was in fact denied benefits due to them under the non-migrant category in Jammu and Kashmir,” Raina said.

The APSCC Chairman said that people at helm should extend the benefits given to the minorities to the Sikhs since the community has been classified as a minority community.

He said this would ensure that justice has been done even though it has been delayed.
