Srinagar, April 19 (UNI) J&K Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a clerk of revenue department in Kulgam for demanding and accepting bribe for issuance of Schedule Tribe Certificate.
ACB received a complaint alleging that one Layaqat Raheem Poswal a resident of Tangmarg, Aharbal, a Clerk in the office of Naib Tehsildar, Tangmarg Aharbal in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, is demanding Rs 7,000 from the complainant for issuance of Schedule Tribe Certificate.
The complainant had already paid Rs 3500 to the accused and was demanding remaining money from him. On this the complainant approached ACB for taking necessary legal action, a statement of the ACB said.
A case under relevant law was registered in police station ACB Anantnag and investigations were taken up during which a trap team was constituted.
The team caught red handed Poswal while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 3,500 from the complainant.
He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses.
Further investigation into the case is on, the ACB statement added.
