The ruling National Conference on Friday stated that the roadmap presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the budget 2025-26 will revolutionise the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, NC Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal emphasised the government’s crucial plan to promote religious tourism in the capital city and explore lesser-known destinations along the border for tourism development.

“This initiative is a much-needed step that will transform untouched destinations into major tourist hubs. The focus remains on strengthening tourism infrastructure, enhancing visitor experience, and ensuring sustained growth in the sector”, he said.

Kamal said that landmarks such as Dal Lake, Nishat, Shalimar, Chashma Shahi, Pari Mahal, shrines, temples, and gurudwaras that define Srinagar’s uniqueness as a tourist destination have been brought onto the development radar of the government.

Additionally, the promotion of lesser-known destinations along the border, such as Gurez and Keran in north Kashmir, and Machail, Bhaderwah, Sukrala Mata, and Pancheri in Jammu, will significantly increase employment opportunities in these areas, he said.

This strategic approach to tourism development not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of these regions but also boosts economic growth and creates a positive impact on local communities. The government’s commitment to exploring and promoting these hidden gems is commendable and will undoubtedly lead to a flourishing tourism industry in the region, the Additional General Secretary added.

Kamal highlighted that this is the first democratic budget in six years that promises a developed and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir.

“The government led by Omar Abdullah has made it clear that public welfare, with a focus on job creation in agriculture and tourism, will be its cornerstone”, he said.
