Peoples Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti on Friday said she takes full responsibility for a video- featuring late separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani speaking about Urdu language and would fully cooperate with the police investigation.
In a post on X, Iltija- daughter of former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti- said that individuals who shared the video were being summoned by Cyber Police Kashmir.
“I take full responsibility for a recent video on Urdu that I tweeted. It’s come to my notice that others who shared it are being summoned… Urge them not to do so & instead ask me whatever pressing questions they might have. I’m a law abiding citizen & will fully co-operate,” she wrote.
The development comes two days after police registered an FIR at the Cyber Police Station Srinagar against unidentified individuals for circulating a video featuring late Geelani. Authorities said the content promoted separatist ideology.
According to police, the video contained elements that “promoted and glorified unlawful activities” of the banned Tehreek-e-Hurriyat- once headed by Geelani- besides allegedly disseminating misleading information and attempting to incite hatred and enmity on the basis of caste, colour and language.
The video, shared by Iltija on Wednesday, showed Geelani speaking about the importance of Urdu. While posting it, she had said she may not agree with his ideology but found his views on Urdu “worth a watch.”
Earlier in the week, Iltija had also staged a protest against a proposed move to remove Urdu as a mandatory language from Revenue Service recruitment.
