Saffron cultivation in offing in Sikkim: J&K officers consulted

In a meeting at the Raj Bhawan on Saturday, Governor Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister PS Tamang, and Minister for Agriculture, Government of Sikkim, Lok Nath Sharma discussed on the cultivation of saffron.
The meeting was also attended by Mission Director, J&K, Agriculture, Chowdhary M Iqbal.
Governor expressed gratitude to the officer from Kashmir.
PS Tamang revealed a proposal to allow the budget for Saffron production in the subsequent budget session, emphasizing the significance of the crop.
”Saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world. And growing it in the State, will substantially assist in boosting the economic status of our farmers,” said CM.
Minister Lok Nath Sharma, thanked the Governor and CM for their constant guidance related to Saffron cultivation and for encouraging the concerned Department.
M D, Chowdhary stressed on future strategy for Saffron cultivators of Sikkim. He apprised the gathering about the way it is cultivated in Kashmir.
Principal Secretary Horticulture Sadan K Tamang presented the biodiversity status of Sikkim and activities so far.
