An encounter erupted between militants and security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, marking the second gunfight in the Valley within a day.
The encounters took place a day after 28 people were killed in a deadliest terror attack on civilians in J&K, over the last several years.
In the first encounter, two infiltrators suspected to be foreigners were killed in Uri sector of Baramulla district while attempting to cross the Line of Control.
The second encounter broke out at Tangmarg area of Kulgam when joint teams of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and a search operation in the area following an input about militant presence.
“The CASO turned into an encounter when hiding terrorists opened fire on the joint teams. Forces are on job,” a security officer said.
A police officer said that gunshots were heard during the search operation.
