Nearly after seven months of meeting various sports bodies, Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez will be taking a review of calendar of activities prepared by recognised and affiliated sports associations for the year 2023-24 here on Wednesday.

Official sources on Tuesday said that the Secretary will be chairing a meeting related to calendar of sports activities for the year 2023-24 here tomorrow at Panchayat Bhawan, Rail Head Complex with recognized sports associations.

“The presidents and general secretaries of all recognized J&K Sports Associations have been asked to attend the meeting tomorrow along with calendar of activities formulated for the year 2023-24,” the official said.

Earlier on September 3, 2022, several decisions were taken to streamline the functioning of the sports associations at a meeting chaired by the Secretary, Youth Services and Sports.
The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council in order to tighten the noose over non-functional associations in the Union Territory during the last meeting also took several decisions to ensure that the interests of the players in various disciplines are not be allowed to be jeopardized due to callousness of defunct sports entities.

Hafeez had said that the sports activities under no circumstances shall stop as it tantamount to fiddling with the career of our youth.

He had also said that the defunct associations for unknown reasons have ceased to function and this shall not be tolerated anymore.

Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull and Director, Youth Services and Sports, Subhash Chibber besides other senior officials are expected to attend the meeting.

Notably, many sports associations including the defunct and non-recognised parallel bodies are allegedly putting the future of several sports persons in dark.

It is reliably learnt that the associations having infighting within members for official posts may feel the heat in the meeting and be served an ultimatum to settle the mess at the earliest.

The Secretary Youth Services and Sports in the previous meeting had also said that although the basic purpose of the sports associations was to identify talent and ensure its grooming besides facilitating the talented lot by fielding them for national and international teams but, few associations have deviated from the standards and are draining their energies in matters not related to sports.
