China has been a real friend of Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said in remarks published on Friday.
Speaking at the 73rd Anniversary of Chinese National Day celebrations organised here by the China-Sri Lanka Friendship Associations, Gunawardena recalled the decades of friendship between the two countries, The Island newspaper reported.
“China has been a very special friend for Sri Lanka,” he said. “‘Kalyana Mitra’ is a friend who is with you in your times of happiness as well your times of sorrow.
China continues to support Sri Lanka with investments, cooperation and tourism, the Prime Minister said.
“Today, China has laid the foundation to become a global giant changing the international balance of power… China is a true decisive global leader.”
