Sonia Gandhi, Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Lal Rathore elected ‘unopposed’ to RS from Rajasthan

Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Minister Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Lal Rathore were on Tuesday elected ‘unopposed’ to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

This will be Sonia Gandhi’s first stint in the Rajya Sabha. She represented the Lok Sabha for five terms. The Congress leader has been representing the Rae Bareli constituency since 2004.

The Principal Secretary of Rajasthan Assembly and Returning Officer of Rajya Sabha Mahaveer Prasad Sharma declared Congress candidate Sonia Gandhi and BJP candidates Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Rathod elected.

It may be mentioned that these three candidates had filed their nomination papers for three seats from Rajasthan.

On Tuesday, the last day of withdrawal of nominations, all three were declared elected unopposed and there was no need to hold elections on February 27.
