Jammu and Kashmir BJP leader Altaf Thakur on Wednesday strongly condemned what he called a “shameful and dangerous attempt to glorify terrorists and mislead Kashmir’s youth” by certain political leaders.
In a strong statement, the party spokesperson said it was “deeply disturbing” that some MLAs and MPs were “trying to defend terrorists responsible for the killing of 12 innocent people, instead of standing with the devastated families who are still mourning their loved ones.”
Thakur said leaders who routinely criticise tough anti-terror operations, including the demolition of houses used as militant hideouts, are “the same people pushing poor children toward radicalisation.”
“Anyone opposing action against terrorist houses is indirectly protecting terrorism,” he said. “They are sending a poisonous message to young, vulnerable children that terrorists are heroes. This is exactly how radicalisation begins, and these politicians know it.”
He accused such political families of prioritising their own interests while ignoring the suffering of ordinary citizens. Every sympathetic remark made by a legislator about a terrorist, he warned, risks steering more youth toward violence.
“When an MLA or MP speaks kindly about a terrorist, a poor child in a remote village starts believing that terrorism is acceptable. That is how innocent minds are damaged,” Thakur said. “This is not leadership — it is brainwashing.”
Invoking the teachings of renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Waheeduddin Khan, Thakur stressed that suicide bombings, violence, and the killing of innocents are “completely against Islam.”
“When the most respected scholars say terrorism has no place in Islam, what moral right do these politicians have to justify or defend terrorists? This is nothing but cheap vote-bank politics,” he added.
His remarks come a day after a purported video of Red Fort bomber Dr. Umar Nabi resurfaced on social media, in which he discusses “suicide bombing as a martyrdom operation.”
