A Dalit student of Adarsh Inter College in Phaphund town in Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh died on Monday after after being thrashed by a teacher, police sources said.
The school has been closed and the teacher is absconding. The incident took place on September 7.
The teacher, Ashwini Singh, beat Nikhil Kumar (15), a student of Class 10, after he wrongly spelled a word, a police officer said. The boy became unconscious and later passed away.
Superintendent of Police Charu Nigam said the teacher will be arrested soon.
